What GZ Quench is All About -- An Overview

  • trouille by trouille scientist, moderator, admin

GZ Quench is the chance for anyone, with any background, to experience the full process of science. In the past Zooniverse projects have focused on having the public participate in the classifications and a subset of Zooites and the Science Team went on to do really interesting analysis and follow up. We wanted to provide that opportunity to a wider set of people. This blog post provides more details and context for how this project started and what it's all about.

Phase 1, the classification phase, finished August 2nd. We're now into Phase 2 -- Data Analysis and Discussion. This is where things get really interesting, fun, challenging, and rewarding. Click here for a blog post outlining this phase.

Post-quenched galaxies are a rare type of galaxy whose star formation was recently and abruptly quenched. Our science goal is to understand what caused the quenching and the role that post-quenched galaxies play in galaxy evolution. For more information about post-quenched galaxies, galaxy evolution, and the science context for GZ Quench, click here, here, here, here, and here.

Now that we have the classification results in hand, it's time to explore the data and see what it tells us. Click here to enter the discussion thread on how to jump in and get your feet wet with the analysis phase.
