Is this really distorted or is it an artefact? Presume both red object and object in far lower LH quadrant are unassociated.

This is definitely a galaxy and not an artifact, most likely slightly distorted judging by the location of the nucleus. The bright red point to the lower-left is definitely a foreground star, and the fainter red blob most likely an unassociated galaxy.

The (lower) red and (upper) green tinge is an artifact, I think. Likely due to the PSF-like nature of the core/nucleus/bulge, and its intensity.
